Recently on 21st July,the Vice President of Indian National Congress visited victims and their relatives in Una and Rajkot in Gujarat.He sipped a cup of tea with certain people around him and asked about the welfare of the hospitalised victims and their relatives.
So far so good,a national leader flying all the way from Delhi and meeting people who are traumatized and suffering from beating is a welcome move.
Once the leader left the site, one of the reporter of a national TV channel entered the hospital and asked two of the admitted patients if they were satisfied with the visit of the leader and if they are hopeful of what has been assured by the visiting VVIP to them? Without any pause,the persons stated that they are not giving any importance to this visit as it is made merely by keeping UP elections in view.The visiting leader has nothing to do with the welfare of the poor people like us.The leader want to mobilise votes from our community, that is this visit has been made by him.The patients further stated that they are not at all hopeful that the assurances given by the leader to them shall be translated into action.
Subsequent probe done by one of the daily newspaper reporter found that the lady with which the visiting leader shook hand met her with all the affection by putting his hand around her shoulder was neither a patient nor a relative of any of the victims of Una incident.It is suspected that this particular outspoken lady was deliberately chosen to talk to the visiting leader. A question is also raised about the lapse in the security of the VVIP by putting this unconnected lady to meet the leader.
Yet another report says that a person was though discharged from hospital but he was again admitted to the hospital as the Vice President of INC was schedule to visit the hospital.
The entire visit and spending lacs of rupees ( a portion of expenses may be from the party fund but tax payers money has also been spent in making security and other arrangements for this visit.) appears to be made to enact this whole drama and have some photos to be circulated by media.
Question is whether all this happened with full knowledge of visiting leader and if so,is it the way to deal with common people?Is it not fooling public in general and victims in particular. Do any credibility is left with the leader?Can we rely and believe him any more?
